Quality Assurance Program
First Nations Wildcrafters, BC utilizes Quality Assurance Standards based upon International standards of Good Agricultural Collection Practices (GACP) developed by the Canadian Herb, Spice and Natural Health Products Coalition (CHSNC). We are honored to one of the Bristish Columbia representatives of the CHSNC.
Our business was featured in the December 2008 Canadian On Farm Food Safety newsletter in an article titled "Traditional Forest Foods and Medicine Systems".
We operate with a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) based Good Agricultural Collection Practice model that has been approved by the World Health Organization, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and Canadian On Farm Food Safety Program.
Our product traceability program begins at the forest floor point of harvest and throughout our operation to the point of sale to our customer.
In 2008 we became the first wild foods business in British Columbia to fully incorporate GACP HACCP based practices integrated from the forest resource management, to the point of harvesting and into our quality product grading and shipping that our customers receive.
In 2009 our business was chosen for a Case Study by the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands Sustainable Agriculture Branch as a model of integrating Traditional Practices with GACP HACCP based wild harvest operations.
In 2009 our business was also chosen by the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands Sustainable Agriculture Branch to identify and develop GACP HACCP based training materials and training tools for the wild foods industry sector in British Columbia.
In March 2010 our business hosted GACP Training Sessions for wild foods and on farm food safety as part of our commitment to quality assurance and food safety in British Columbia.
Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Traceability are core values we incorporate into our business operations. We are committed to continuing to be a wild foods sector industry leader in development of food safety and best management practices for our forest harvested products.
